NHL – finalists for the Rookie of the Year Trophy
April 22, 2009 – The finalists for the Calder Trophy have been announced Wednesday. The award is given each season rookie of the year, a tradition that began with the NHL president Frank Calder 60 years ago. This year's finalists are Steve Mason, Columbus Blue Jackets Bobby Ryan, Anaheim Ducks, and Kirk Versteeg of the Chicago Blackhawks.

- Bobby Ryan

The Blackhawks have a chance to win the Calder Memorial Trophy twice finalist with Kirk Versteeg. Versteeg was a fifth-round pick of the Bruins, but showed his talent this season. He is a striker with fast incredible skills to push the net and move easily in traffic. It has proven dangerous on the ice.
With 22-31-53, it is the fourth the Blackhawks in scoring and fifth in goals, he tied with Billy gardener in the franchise record for shorthanded goals, and tied for third in the NHL with seven shorthanded goals. He was named to the NHL Young Star Games in January this year, although, because of an injury, do not play in the event.
