Some of you are probably wondering why I chose so little RAM and hard drive rather low. As I said, most improvements are at a reasonable price. I bought 2 GB of Newegg for $ 80 upgrade Dell would have been $ 200.
Battery
I need my machine to last as long as possible. I chose the nine cells Dell Latitude D630 battery despite the fact that it draws on the site of the battery. I really think I made the right choice because this thing lasts a very long time. Firefox, Office, Wi-Fi, and screen at max (8 /
the battery lasted (I ran until the laptop turned off) that 5 amazing hours and 15 minutes. same test bed but no Wi-Fi landed me with 5 hours and 45 minutes.
I have not had enough time to test it with the screen at a medium level but Vista tells me I can say that it can push a little over six hours with Wi-Fi If you get the Media Bay battery to go along with the nine cells, I would venture about 7.5 hours or more. Of course, this assumes that you use to lightweight programs and you have 1 GB of RAM or more.
At the bottom of the battery there is a button that lets you check the battery is the same level.it href = "http://www.laptopbatterymag.com/dell-latitude-d620.htm"> Dell D620 Battery It is five levels, giving you an estimate of the amount of charge is available. I think it is useful because you do not need to put the laptop to check the battery level.
Build and design:
This thing feels like a tank and is extremely robust. The hinges of the machine are stiff but not difficult to open and screen is not distorted. There is no flexing of the screen and you really have to try to press back to see ripples. When it is closed, a small shiny hinge holds the screen locked. The top and bottom of the machine are in magnesium. I do not recommend leaving down the machine to test if the material is durable.
The speakers are (I think) inside the laptop because I saw no openings for them. The battery comes forward rather than backward. You are also able to add another battery bay or replace the DVD drive with something updated down the road. It is very simple to replace the drive in case something happens.
I have one complaint: I frequently use my USB ports and I do not have the other two ports in the back. I prefer them on the side. USB ports are also a bit stiff. Sometimes you try to lock the connector into the slot.
Screen
Many people complain the terrible brightness level of the D620. Unfortunately, I do not have to compare it to D620. I do, however, have a monitor Viewsonic VX2025wm desktop which has been color calibrated with a Spyder2 Suite. This seems like an apples and oranges type of comparison, but if I'm comparing it, I have to use some something that has been in my possession for at least a full year. The added benefit is that this comparison shows how the colors differ a screen that has a near-perfect color reproduction.
I am pleased to announce the 14.1-inch 1440×900 screen is surprisingly better expected. I could easily see inside with the sun behind me. This was tested with the highest level of brightness screen (8 / 8).
Speakers
The speakers output at about two watts and are under the left palm (I feel them vibrating). There are silent and fast volume buttons on the top of the keyboard, all very handy to have. The speakers are loud … much stronger than expected. According to what is played, they might be able to fill a small room. Unfortunately, the quality, a speakerphone is not always equal output. At high and sometimes distorted average startup occur. Admittedly, this is a business machine that was primarily designed output for warnings and just so. It's like Dell bought out all the extra speakers and Super Game Boy Enterprises.
If you like listening to music, bring your own external speakers and possibly your own sound card.
Processor and Performance
CPU: My machine was fitted with the new Santa Rosa platform. Updates include a faster processor front-side bus and a new level of state power. A representative from Intel (I used to work in retail), I was told these new chips are about 10-15 percent faster and also consume less battery life than the previous generation Centrino. It will not, however, make use of applications minor (Office programs) run faster. The underlying concept is more likely to use the battery and the people who need a processor faster (multimedia users).
HD: The hard drive is a SATA 80GB drive running at 5400 rpm. My plan was to buy a disc 160 GB and a portable housing of Newegg, replace the 80GB hard drive, and convert the original drive of the machine to a laptop HD. For financial reasons, I not go through. The rapid transfer speed (high density) and more storage are nice ideas, but we can not have it all.
GPX: I'll be Frankly, this machine was not built for games. Intel upgraded this generation integrated graphics, but there is still no match for a dedicated card. Essentially, the X3100 can run old games, but do not expect or fear equally graphically intensive Thurs to be playable.
RAM: If you want to run multiple applications, get the 2GB. Vista recommends (read: needs) 1GB to run the OS and other applications (S) smoothly. Before I updated the machine with 2GB, it came with 512. He lingered, and nearly always accessing the hard drive (and consuming more energy in the process). After the upgrade to 2GB, it ran smooth like a hot knife through butter. I needed 2GB because Photoshop is a memory hog enormous. If you plan to use this machine for office use, 1GB is probably enough to meet your needs.
Wireless
My machine came pre-equipped with the Intel 3945 wireless card offering a / b / g wireless reception. I did not opt for the 802.11n because it is still in draft mode and receiving G be around for a while. Chances are, when I'm next to my laptop (years from now) a new standard will be accepted for wireless reception and N will be obsolete.
I was able to test the connection with my Linksys WRT54G, a router uncommon. I could go anywhere in the house and pick up a signal. Wherever I went, I could not cancel the laptop to connect, I had to go outside and walk all the way to the opposite side of the yard of my neighbor to kill him. To put it in perspective, which is approximately 150 feet.
My D630 came configured with Bluetooth. I tested it with my PDA and was able to sync with no problem.
Operating system and software
I ordered my machine with Windows Vista Business. The machine came with virtually zero software useless. In fact, apart from the security software provided surprising, it only comes with Roxio Creator 9 and Cyberlink PowerDVD 7. The only thing I uninstalled the Google Desktop and Google Explorer Bar.
Security and other
The machine was delivered with a security package by Wave Systems. The software comes with a wizard that helps you choose the level of security you want to implement. You have the right to request an optional password and / or fingerprint at boot. You can even encrypt the hard drive with the same password or fingerprint.
Try to use the fingerprint reader, I decided to ask my footprint digital startup. The interesting thing about this option is that if you have no password or a fingerprint, you can not even access BIOS. Essentially, if the laptop is stolen and if the BIOS is properly configured, the thief will have a hell of a time trying to access your data. Business users take note, if you tend to lose laptops, you must purchase this device. I heard a story about how too which company X lost a laptop with employee and / or other sensitive information.
I tried to put the machine to sleep only to discover that she has asked for both. In fact, if the laptop ever logs off or goes down, you will be asked for one or two types of security, depending on your choice.
Even if the machine is very well protected on the outside, there are programs very little firewall for Windows Vista. The ships with Vista is pretty useless. Just be careful checking important information on the people unprotected connection; common sense.
Warranty and Customer Support
I talked with Dell customer support several times to get a feel for the support they provide. I am extremely happy to report all representatives Assistance customers that I talked with were very knowledgeable. They all answered my questions without hesitation and correctly, they are all very polite, if you too are polite. The longer I was on hold was for five minutes.
I have heard horror stories line consumption of Dell but the business is incredibly good. I know I made the right choice by paying for the $ 100 for home service. If some of you are more "butterfingered," get the full package of care.
Updated
Make day the machine was an interesting journey. The machine was delivered with a stick of 512 MB and it was upgraded to a pair of sticks 1GB (2GB total).
The RAM slots are in two places, under the keyboard in the laptop. I decided to start with the most difficult, as keyboard. Let me warn you here, it was difficult for me to do and I built more computers than I have fingers and toes. I had to remove the hinge, which felt like it could break at any given time, followed by the keyboard. After many sweaty but careful minutes, I been able to replace the RAM. The other slot, however, is extremely simple: one screw and I was done.

If I take the internal battery of my first game to try it in the other with all my saved data is erased in the first game?
Yes, I will! The battery is there to power the internal circuitry – maintenance for the save!
