My self-appointed task in this life is to educate people about 80 years to foster an appreciation of the decade seems to have been destined to spend the rest of century as the subject of jokes.
What good out of those 10 years between 1980 and 1990? What about the console that Nintendo has brought to the forefront of video game dethroning Atari and introducing popular characters like Mario in the world? The system has laid the groundwork for the Wii. That's the NES was introduced in 1983, eventually selling over 63 million units. Nintendo also launched the era of mobile gaming in 1989's Boy Game. While we're on the topic of technology, you're probably aware that the Mac is the coolest computers around these days, with Apple stores in New York and other cities to become the Mecca of technology. Well, the first Mac came out in 1984.
You need look no further than my closet for a short list of 80 films that were not only well then, but now regarded as classics, with characters worthy of T-shirts: A Christmas Story, Aliens, Back To The Future, Blade Runner, Caddyshack, ET, The Empire Strikes Back, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Friday The 13th, Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Karate Kid, really, is it necessary for me, who want to reach L although Z? I think not. What is the biggest blockbuster of the summer for 2009 are awaiting? Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, perhaps? Well, I wonder if Transformers has emerged. Oh, this is 1984.
We already talked about music but here are a few more acts that peaked during the decade special: The Police, The Clash, U2, INXS, Duran Duran, The Go-Go's and Talking Heads. Despite what advertisers would have us believe, the 80s was not all bad hair and synthesizers.

The game is currently still without a publisher. According Protoncharging.com Sony has gotten a publisher, but does not say who it is. Moreover, the rumor is that EA and Atari are both in talks with Sony on this time about picking up the publishing rights. If they can not reach agreement in time after Sony may decide to publish the game as a Playstation exclusive. I also believe that no matter who publishes it, Sony wants it to be released next year, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the first film. Whatever happens, I can not wait.
