Hazard: The Journey of Life
Hazard: The Journey of Life

Defensive driving is probably the best way to ensure the safety of you, your passengers and your vehicle. Defensive driving describes the skill of being able to drive a motor vehicle in such a way that reduces the chance of being involved in an accident. The basic idea is simple – it means being aware, and take steps to avoid any potential threats when you travel on the roads.
However, in practice, it involves much more than that. The first part relates to your ability as a driver. It involves training to improve skills of vehicle control, observation, anticipation, so temperament is the easy part that you have complete control over your side transaction.
The second party acknowledges that although you may be able to control your actions at any time, there is virtually nothing you can do to control the actions of other drivers. Thus, a wide range of defensive techniques have been developed to enable you to face whatever may happen. These skills involve being alert and ready to respond to threats posed by other road users. The ultimate goal is to be proactive so you can avoid putting in dangerous situations, rather than merely react to threats once they develop.
Here are the basics of defensive driving.
1) Be Prepared
This is one of the skills the most important defensive driving. If you're ready for all situations that develop in May on the road, your chances of coming home in any Security will be much greater.
So before starting any journey, make sure your vehicle is properly prepared. Check tire pressure and water, oil and gas levels. Make sure all lights and mirrors are functioning properly. And finally, do not leave without taking a basic medical kit of tools such as jack, spare bulbs and all relevant documents.
2) Be Seen
One of the best ways to improve your safety on the road is to ensure that other drivers see your car. If they are aware of your vehicle and the space it occupies on the road, they are less likely to collide with you.
This may seem rather obvious, but take a look at this incredible Statistics – Most motorists do not see that 10% of cars on the roads around them. This means they see only one car in ten. Or, more ominously, they are not nine out of ten cars.
So to make sure other drivers see you to make full use of your lights. Of course, it goes without saying that you should always use your headlights during times enlightening, but defensive driving goes beyond the bare legal minimum. For example, I heard some top drivers say that you must use your headlights at ALL times unless the conduct in full sun.
To see the benefit of that next time you're driving when it starts to get dark, pay special attention to the rest of the drivers on the road. I guarantee you'll be more likely to notice the first few drivers who have switched their headlights on.
And while we're on the about being seen, when passing other cars, make sure you spend less time as possible in the blind spot of other drivers. If they are unaware of your presence, they are more likely to collide with your vehicle.
3) create space
The third principle of defensive driving is to create a space between your vehicle and other motorists. This gives you extra margin of maneuver to avoid collision with other users, if something unexpected occurs.
For example, do not follow too closely other vehicles. If they stop suddenly and you're too close, you're more likely to hit his vehicle. So reversing use the rule of three seconds. Whatever speed you do, make sure the vehicle ahead of you is still ahead by three seconds. As code, select a reference point along the road and start counting when the vehicle before it happens. If you pass the same point in three seconds, you are too close and need to backtrack. In case of inclement weather such as snow and ice, this gap should be extended to five seconds to account for the braking distance longer.
And finally, when on the road, use your common sense. For example, avoid too close to any vehicle that seems poorly maintained or shows signs of accident damage. These are subtle clues that the vehicle owner is not a driver of Defense and as such is no longer a danger to your safety.
4) remain calm
Another important aspect of defensive driving is to avoid road rage, both in themselves and other motorists. Try to stay calm under all circumstances and do not react to the anger of others that you encounter when on the road. Your ability to remain calm and rational is directly linked to your ability to put the principles of defensive driving practice and stay safe. If you lose your composure when behind the wheel, your safety is in jeopardy.
This These are just some of the most basic of defensive driving. To learn more about how to stay safe on the roads and enjoy your driving, take a look at some of the defensive driving course, many of which are available online. They will save you money and perhaps even your life.
