It was one of the most popular hero of the last century – the movie star, television, radio, and especially novels, comics. Writer Harlan Ellison once suggested that he was one of five fictional characters known to every man, woman and child on the planet (with Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan and Mickey Mouse). But when Superman died last year, hardly anyone seemed to care.

Everything was fine – except that 20 years later, DC decided that he should come back anyway, in a series called Infinite Crisis. Why heroes of this caliber to attract such a muted reaction to his disappearance? In part because super-heroes die all the time – and often they return. The story that follows, "The Death of Superman", broke records comic book sales. Within months, however, Superman had been raised by Kryptonian technology. Nobody really thought he was dead.
Any anyone who watches the soaps may be aware that people often return to life in creative ways. In the fantasy world of superheroes, However, authors may be even more imaginative. In the past, we discovered that the heroes (and villains) are not dead as assumed, but had been replaced by androids, clone human beings or cosmic. It was revealed that they had a super-secret power that restored their lives, or they teleported away just in time. In some cases, history has changed, meaning that they never even death arrived!
Of course, other heroes simply would not be allowed to die. Nightwing, co-star of the series animated Teen Titans, was also supposed to die in Infinite Crisis – until publishers DC intervened to save him. Killing off a 95-year-old, Long retired hero is one thing, but killing a young TV hero
