Nintendo DS R4 DS Slot 1 Solution – Review and M3 Ds Simply Comparison.
There are so many Slot 1 homebrew devices for the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS lite that is difficult to know exactly which one you should buy. The current favorite, and I say this only based on the OUT OF STOCK notices on the pages online stores, is the M3 DS. The M3 DS is not the first slot 1 solution, but it became the favorite of your pack. More than likely because of the immense popularity of the AC Original M3 / player for the Game Boy Advance console.
In my research, however, I found the R4 DS. While this in itself is not very Interestingly, what is interesting is that the M3 DS and the R4 DS Slot 1 solution are manufactured by the same people – at least – the same plant. What it means for players and fans of homebrew is that they can get their hands on the R4 DS and we know they get exactly the same product they Getting they would have bought the M3 DS Simply to another shop.
You see, the R4 DS M3 DS Simply are exactly the same. The only difference between the two units is the packaging and logo that is displayed on the main screen when you boot up your Nintendo DS or DS Lite. Functionality, characteristics, even the upgrades and firmware updates are published at the same time, it seems features and functions in each update is identical to another. What you get M3 DS Simply or R4 DS Slot 1 Solution, you get basically the same things — everything you need to load games, homebrew applications and is included in the box.
The R4 DS Slot 1 Solution Package
It is almost a dead giveaway here, except for the fact that the R4 DS comes in its own R4 DS Box. But you will notice that once you open the box inside the box are identical the M3 DS Simply, you still get the same light blue color ring / carrying case included with the M3 DS Simply. You get everything you need right out of the box. This includes the R4 DS slot 1 cartridge, a USB microSD Reader / Writer (and this can actually use your microSD as a USB drive) and the ring carrying pouch and software CD.
Configure the R4 DS is easy
Installation is as simple as can be. The instruction manual provided (which is on the CD itself) explains in detail what you must do to get your R4 DS work. The first thing you have to do is insert the microSD card (not included – but you can buy this anywhere) micrSD in the drive and plug into an available USB port on your computer. It will instantly go up as a portable hard drive / Flash Drive. Here, you can do one of two things. You can either copy the software from CD, as indicated in the manual of the microSD card to put all the system files on it. I would recommend if you go to the R4 DS firmware, and download the latest drivers because they are often updated there.
Once you've copied your system files to the micro SD card, it is time to load games and homebrew applications you want to play. Again, it works exactly the same way with the M3 DS Simply, no difference between the two units at all. Simply copy and paste files from your PC that you want the microSD card. A simple drag and drop is all that is necessary. Games and applications homebrew work without patching or fixing or compression. They work like they are right out of the box so to speak.
Now that you have copied your files and system files that you want to use and play, it's time to put your microSD card into the slot on top of the R4 DS cartridge. The R4 DS CARTIDGES is the same size as any standard Nintendo DS or DS Lite cartirge game, so there is no bulging or out once it is inserted in the port cartridge in your NDS. The micro SD slot is located on the top of the R4 DS and it is actually spring. The insert microSD card in the slot with the SD label on the side the current label CARTIDGES R4 DS. You will hear a "click" once you have inserted the microSD card in the slot is to let you know it is in place, and you're ready to turn on your Nintendo DS console. The microSD card fits perfectly flat against the box R4.
Once you've turned on your Nintendo DS or Nintendo DS Lite, the file system is responsible for the R4 DS cartridge, exactly the same way as when you use the M3 DS Simply. It takes about 2 seconds for the main menu appears, with the R4 DS logo on the top screen and the menu on the bottom. On the screen Bottom You can select one of 3 options.
1. GAME MENU – When you select this menu, you'll be instantly taken to a list all files in the game, homebrew applications, etc.. you have stored on your microSD card. You can use the joystick to the NDS to select the file you want load. If you load a game for the first time, you will be prompted after selecting the game to confirm that you want to create a backup file for games. This is necessary if you want to win the match. Your game saves are stored on the microSD card as the game itself files – this is great if you want to delete these games later replaced by other files, as you can copy your backup files in your PC games, for a later use when you are ready to continue to play that game again.
2. Multimedia menu – When you select this second option, you launch the multi media player / Moonshell. In this menu you are able to view digital photos stored on the microSD card to listen your favorite MP3 songs, watch movies you've converted from DVD with the included software, and read ebooks in TXT format. This revolves your Nintendo DS or DS Lite into a unit of Full Blown multi-media entertainment.
3. BOOT Slot 2 – This menu allows the R4 DS, like the M3 DS to boot the GBA slot or 2 slot in your Nintendo DS / DS Lite console. This is for those of us who also want to get their hands on a GBA flash card, and you want run GBA homebrew games and applications as well as the Nintendo DS. It also adds extra storage for NDS Homebrew, because you can actually use a Flash Card GBA NDS startup files, as you use the R4 DS as a PassMe / Passcard solution.
All in all, no matter where you have taken, both the R4 DS Slot 1 Solution and the M3 DS simply excellent accessories for the Nintendo DS / DS Lite. Where you must depend only on This model is in stock. As mentioned earlier in this article, the two units are identical in all respects. The only difference is the box packaging and logo that appears when you first start your Nintendo DS up console.
