Consequences
The standby power loss (loss of energy vampire) of electronic devices of each household generally very low, but the sum of all such devices within the household is important. Its 1998 study estimated that standby power consumption accounted for about 5% of the total consumption of residential electricity in America dding to over 3 billion dollars in annual energy costs. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the national electricity consumption dwelling in 2004 was 1.29 billion hours megawatt hours (MWh) 5% of which is 64m MWh. The British government's 2006 Energy Review found that sleep modes on electronic devices account for 8% the UK domestic electricity consumption. A similar study in France in 2000 found that standby power accounted for 7% of consumption Overall residential. "Many appliances continue to draw a small amount of electricity when turned off. These" ghosts " loads occur in most appliances that use electricity, such as VCRs, televisions, stereos, computers and kitchen appliances. This can be avoided by unplugging the appliance or using a power strip and using the switch on the power unit to cut all power to the device. "
The heat generated
Careful analysis of the cost of energy would also consider the effects of power standby mode on heating and cooling. Almost all of the standby power is converted into heat. During warm periods, the extra energy can be used to remove heat-up in standby power. During warmer months, this energy, as well as all the heat generated by other devices, increase air conditioning costs. During periods of cold, heat generated by devices on standby perhaps slightly reduce the need to heat a space by other methods. The net effect on efficiency energy, however, depends on climate and the heating and cooling methods used, if necessary.
Fire hazards

In July 2006, the British government announced it would ban televisions and video players that exceed the maximum standby power consumption standard (1 watt).
In July 2007, the unit 2005 of the California standards are entered into force, limiting the external supply emergency power to 0.5 watts.
In July 2008, the Committee of the European Union accepted a proposal from regulators to reduce power consumption in standby mode to 1 or 2 watts by 2010. It also ensures a reduction additional 0.5 or 1 watt by 2012.
Total Estimate

Here are some easy ways to reduce standby power. The better way is to simply unplug unused appliances. To turn off multiple devices that are often used together as a PC monitor and a printer, it is advisable to use a switchable power strip or surge protector with multiple outlets. Another alternative is to consider purchasing of energy saving devices or devices that offer a real break. Identify a real break can be difficult if, as devices even with a hardware switch, such as televisions, often still do standby power if it is not fully taken off energy supplies. Replacing the battery-powered devices such as cordless phones or rechargeable shavers with alternatives to cable is not only reduce the standby power required to charge the battery, but also reduce energy losses in battery charging and discharging inefficiencies. It should be noted that many devices standby power to preserve the configuration settings and unplug these parameters will lose, either immediately or shortly after.

Switching devices on or off can be automated. The timers can be used to cut emergency power for devices that are used on a regular schedule. However, many of these devices in turn needs energy in standby mode (for example, uses SmartStrips 0.28 watts in standby mode, the standby plug uses 0.4 watts) and energy and resources need to make and recycle the appliance Therefore care must be taken to ensure the reduction of energy consumption.
Some devices that use standby power can not turn when power is off, then reapplied using an external switch. A capacitor connected in parallel with the switch Food can act as a momentary contact switch to turn these devices when power is applied.
Some computers allow reduce standby power consumption by disabling components that use energy in standby mode. For example, disabling Wake-on-LAN, wake on ring, Wake on keyboard or USB can reduce power during standby.
