As the years pass, the video game companies permenantly new games to look forward. But what if we want play a game older? Unfortunately, consoles do not last forever and as we age, it seems that we simply lose the ability to play games that entertained us as children (this statement does not take into account the Wii Virtual Console, of course). However, emulators provide a solution to problem … Project 64 roms give us the ability to replay Nintendo 64 games. Read on to learn more.
What emulators?
Emulators are programs of light weight which act as functional replacements for game consoles. It not only allows you to play existing video games, but also hack games to create new levels, challenges, etc. emulators are used mainly for older consoles, such as the NES or Sega Genesis, but can be used for the new consoles (although they are generally in serious need of improvement).
Emulators How do they work?
Basically everything you need to know (unless you want to make your own emulator) is that the emulation program is able to open files called ROM or ISO. ROMs are images of game cartridges that originally used (SNES, N64, etc.), and ISOs are images of games that were originally on the disc (PS, Dreamcast, etc..) However, an emulator can not play all Roma or ISOs. To play a ROM SNES, you need an emulator which acts like a SNES. To read an ISO PS, you need a PS emulator. To play 64 roms, you need a emulator such as Project 64. Meaning? Well.
What are the benefits of using an emulator?
Emulators allow you to enjoy a seemingly endless number of games free of charge on your own computer, they absorb a very insignificant amount of space on your hard drive (unless you use an emulator for a new console), and they let you save your game whenever and wherever you like. I (Xalo) own the original Chrono Trigger for the SNES. However, I imagine that many of you guys grew up with an N64 console or even later, completely absent on a legendary game. Once a console has lived his life and the only alternative is to buy it again to play on another console (which will again be replaced in about 3-5 years) what do you do? Emulators provide the only solution for gamers who simply want to relive the classics they grew up with.
So they are perfect no?
Well, nothing is perfect. ESA has made illegal (and often impossible) to download some ROMs, it is difficult to find the game you are looking for. They make it unlawful on the grounds that the Wii Virtual Console is designed to allow you to relive your childhood with you selling the technology of yesterday at today's prices. Also, many download sites look a little sketchy and should not be trusted immediately. Often, companies who made the original games no longer exist and are certainly not to make more money by selling the game itself. Thus, you can buy the game on virtual console if you wish, but we prefer the comfort of our computers. There is nothing quite like the ability to save your report at any time game with a 64 ROM Project. Also, if you do not get frustrated or have your hands burst into flames, we recommend buying a controller USB. They are about $ 10 – $ 15 new, but worthwhile if you plan to play any fighting games (see Street Fighter).

+ ZNES – emulator SNES
+ Visual Boy – Advance, GB, GBC, and GBA emulator
+ Project64 – N64 Emulator
ePSXe – PSX emulator
