For many years, the conflict on the origin of Humanity has been on the track. The testimony was the most famous SCOPES vs. State Trail in 1925. John Scopes, a schoolteacher, had been arrested for teaching the act of man's evolution in the classroom. In 1955, Jerome Lawrence and Robert Lee recreate the path between the explanation scientific developments and the Christian doctrine of God's creation. While Inherit the Wind "is literally about the issues in conflict, what lies beneath it, is another story. Lawrence and Lee play a little game of hide and seek with the reader, slipping reccurring symbols in the room.

These symbols first appear in Act I when the reader is introduced to the fictional setting of Hillsboro (Dayton, Tennessee). We just learned Bertram Cates is the man accused. As the story begins to unfold, the reader begins to realize the majority view on the matter. "Lemonade" Lemonade "(The workers waving the banner above the heads of crowds [yelling]" READ YOUR BIBLE. "(Act I, Scene I) All eyes are on Brady – the defendant's theory of God – as Drummond – Advocate for Cates – is defined as the devil. After witnesses raised, the tension mounts as Drummond and Brady bicker about crime. Several times the judge decides to order. Before the judge arrives, Drummond tells a story of the Dancer Golden Rachel and strengthen Cates. Drummond goes back to when he was little boy when he wanted the toy pony, Golden Dancer.
