Motion detection USB, Bluetooth (GB PS3 and PSP)
The SIXAXIS Wireless Controller (SCPH-98040/CECHZC1) (trademark "SIXAXIS") (informally known as PlayStation 3 Wireless Controller) is the official of the handheld wireless controller for the PlayStation 3 from Sony, later to be succeeded by the DualShock 3. In Japan, individual controllers Sixaxis were available for purchase simultaneously with the launch of the console, without a mini USB cable / USB. The word "SIXAXIS" is also used to describe the motion sensitive technology in PlayStation 3 controllers. The word "Sixaxis" (a contraction of "six axis" for the movement directional) is a palindrome. Sixaxis controllers can also be used on the PSP Go past two Bluetooth use and can be connected by registration system and the PS3 controller.
History
At E3 2005, Sony introduced their "boomerang" design for PlayStation 3 controller. Accompanied by many critics, most of which were for its looks, this design was later abandoned. Sony said later than the original controller "was very clearly designed as a design concept, and was never intended to be the final controller, despite what everyone said about it. "
Boomerang design was replaced by an amendment, the wireless version of the DualShock 2 controller at E3 2006. The Sixaxis controller is being eliminated, and the DualShock 3 is the new controller official, who in addition to a vibration function will always include the Sixaxis functionality. However, Europe would still have the Sixaxis controller during the summer 2008 that the European Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PlayStation 3 bundle includes a Sixaxis. The Sixaxis is no longer produced.
Feature and design changes
A major feature of the Sixaxis controller is the ability to sense both rotational orientation and acceleration translation along the three axes dimensions with six degrees of freedom, hence the name. . This became a subject of controversy, that the circumstances of the announcement, made less than eight months after Nintendo revealed motion detection capabilities in its new game console controller (see Wii Remote), leads to Assuming that the addition of motion detection has been a decision at an advanced stage by Sony to follow Nintendo's move. Further fueling speculation was the fact that only Warhawk shown at E3 this year has demonstrated the capability of motion detection. [Citation needed] In addition, some comments from Incognito Entertainment, the developer behind the motion detection PlayStation 3 game, Warhawk, said he had received development controllers with motion detection function only 10 days or more before E3. Developer Brian Upton from SCE Studios Santa Monica later clarified that the Incognito had been secretly working on technology to detect movement "for some time," but did not received a working controller until "the last few weeks before E3.
The Sixaxis sensitivity characteristics finer than the DualShock 2 analog, increased precision 10-bit precision of 8 bits of the DualShock 2. The controller also uses two analog signals and digital simultaneously at any time during the game framework under the buttons L2 and R2 has been omitted and these buttons have been trigger-like, with the range of travel to determine the degree of analog input rather than the pressure range. Instead of "Analog" button switch Dual mode analog previous models is a jewel-like "PS button" with the PlayStation logo, which can be used to access the home menu, switch the control inputs and turn the console or controller or off.
LED
The top of a Sixaxis DualShock 3 controller, LED lights on the right.
A row of four numbered LED port indicators are on top of the handle, to identify and distinguish multiple controllers Wireless. Given that there are only four LEDs on the drive controller itself, multiple indicators light for players 5, 6 and 7 (eg, if '4 'and '1' indicators are lit at the same time, the controller is assigned to player 5). While the PS3 is on, press the PS button will bring up a menu displaying the battery charge of all controllers synchronized among other options.
Accessories Sixaxis
Rechargeable batteries
The battery for the SIXAXIS wireless controller is 3.7 V Li-ion battery with a cable. The pack provides up to 30 hours on a full charge of the game continues for the wireless controller. It is recommended not to throw batteries (which differ slightly in voltage). It is also delivered through the AC adapter and charger kit as part of the Sixaxis / DualShock 3 battery charger. Third party kits rechargeable battery are also available. Although the USB charger can also be connected to the AC adapter and original PlayStation 3 / slim console. The battery was origin does not seem to be replaceable when a spokesman for Sony said that the Sixaxis should operate for "many years before he there is no degradation in performance of the battery. When and if that happens, then of course Sony will offer an exchange service for these items. " Later it was revealed that the Sixaxis came with instructions on how to remove the battery and the battery has been fully removable.
AC adapter kit refill
The AC adapter kit can charge Sixaxis charging and / or DualShock 3 controllers, the Official Bluetooth headset and wireless keyboard. The kit can also charge the PSP-2000 and PSP-3000. The charger uses an AC wall outlet, eliminating the need to have a PS3 running to load the equipment. It includes a cable of 4.92 m long (USB Type A Mini-B) and 6.56 m long supply drawstring cord.
USB 2.0 Cable Pack
Pack USB 2.0 cable allows the controller to be recharged for playing a game by plugging the Sixaxis / DualShock 3 wireless controller and PlayStation Portable into a USB hub. The kit also includes rechargeable battery. It should also to note that the USB 2.0 Pack can use a wireless controller, no battery, but Sony Computer Entertainment recommends using a battery Li-ion battery (vacuum) to avoid damaging the battery compartment exposed.

Removing the ability of vibration
Sony has announced that because motion sensors included, the vibration function controller PlayStation Previous was removed, indicating that the vibration would interfere with motion detection. This therefore makes the PS3 wireless incredibly light, which felt strange for the players [citation needed] more accustomed to larger vehicles such as the DualShock controllers. Haptics developer Immersion Corporation, which had successfully sued Sony for patent infringement, has expressed skepticism of the rationale for Sony, with its president Victor Viegas said In an interview, "I do think a very difficult problem to solve, and Immersion has experts who would be happy to solve this problem them, "provided that Sony withdraws its appeal of the decision of patent infringement. Immersion later emphasized compatibility with motion detection when the introduction of its next generation technology with vibration feedback, TouchSense. Following statements by Sony were dismissive of the arguments Immersion, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) Senior VP of Marketing Peter Dille, declaring: "It seems that people are dumping in search of way to negotiate through the press and try to make their submissions to us, we talked about how there is potential for this rumble interfering with the Sixaxis controller. "
However, in a press release made some eight months later, Phil Harrison, president of Sony studios in worldwide, said: "Now, rumble I think the functionality of last generation, this is not the feature the next generation I think motion sensitivity is .. "He added that rumble would be in the future, come from controllers third. . This statement was untrue less than a year later with the announcement of the DualShock 3.
