There is nothing worse than enjoying your favorite game and who suddenly stop working your Xbox, only to have the change in green circle a bright red ring of death. It is a fact that almost 10% of Xbox 360 will get made this problem one time or another.
So what do you do? This article will show you how to fix three red lights on the Xbox 360 and guarantee you will never see the red ring again.
The Microsoft Way
Now before continuing, it is worth noting that Microsoft will "fix" your Xbox 360 for free if still under warranty. Although this remedy is not guaranteed to permanently fix the three red lights (they usually replace with a refurbished model that can experience the red ring again) it is still free. If you're willing to wait 4-6 weeks, you must send your console off.
The Other Way
Now If you're one of us whose interest has "exhausted" or if you are impatient like me, you need to find another way to effectively correct your Xbox 360 (unless you want to just give up the game, ouch!).
I would suggest that you learn how to repair it yourself.
Fix it myself … are you crazy?
Maybe I'm crazy, but I have a working Xbox 360 once that had the Red Ring of Death. And I never had to ship off to Microsoft and pay for expensive repairs.
It's actually quite simple to determine how to resolve three red lights on the Xbox 360. You must understand that this problem stems from the console getting too hot. When it overheats, there is a clamp that holds the GPU (CPU graphic) in place. This clip may bend and cause the solder joints on the GPU to break and give you a code of malfunctioning equipment (three red lights).
Follow these steps to fix the Xbox 360 yourself. Keep in mind that opening your console will void the warranty if it is still covered, but a permanent solution:
1 - Open your console and take the DVD drive.
2 - Remove the GPU by removing the X-shaped clamp (X-clamp) it holds the main board
3 - Remove the heat sink
4 - Use a thermal compound and put the heatsink Heat back on
5 - Put the GPU, but back on the use of very thin washers to get it. This will keep the clamp vibrate and break the welds.
6 - Now put together the console and let it run for about 30 minutes, using its own heat to "consolidate" solder joints.
While getting the X-clamp, you keep the console from ever having the problem three red lights again.
