Every person alive today has a debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who served in WWII. Many have sacrificed their lives, others were maimed and wounded in combat or on the home front. St Dunstans is a charity founded in 1915 to help blind and visually impaired ex-military to rebuild their lives. Below the life experience of Stan Grimsey. One of many ex-soldiers and women who have benefited from the generosity people who support St. Dunstans Stan joined the infantry in 1939. For two years, his first duty was to the driver Brigade of the 54th Infantry Brigade.
Stan finally left his post in Hereford in April 1941 for the Andes, stopping train – and beat – Rio, Cape Town, Bombay and Singapore.
"I lost a lot of my friends defend Singapore. It was a terrible scene there, the incredible carnage. "
Stan has been captured Singapore, and forced to work – in his career, building a railroad – while staying in tents in the jungle. He was kept prisoner for More than a year.
"Conditions in the camps were appalling. We've done 18 hours or more a day sometimes. Everything we ate rice was horrible, and maggots. There were lots of them in the rice, you could not choose even realize. "
Although sometimes finds it difficult to resolve to talk about traumatic experiences of the prisoner was kept, Stan believes that it is important that people know what happened and history remembers as he was.
"These men knew exactly what they did for boys, it was a bad scene. "
When Japan surrendered, Stan was the construction of an airstrip:
"A paratrooper walked into the camp, and said: 'you are free'. He said a bomber would be a test on the camp and not having fear. When she fell Supplies We just could not believe it! There was canned food, paper and pencils and toilet paper. We were so happy when we left the camp. "
He eventually got back to England in November 1945. He received a letter while he was in the canal Suez, telling him how life was back at home.
View Stan had started to deteriorate while working on the railways:
"I was a prisoner of war for three years and eight months. We were denied food and medicines and give a ¬ Rice then I suffered a lack of vitamin B and loss of sight. "
He was first a St Dunstan in 1977 and was a resident Standing since 1979.
"I love life. St Dunstan's call my Heaven. I have so many friends here and everyone was very good for me. I have everything I need here. I am very happy here. "
Stan still has very active. He did not half Hastings Marathon at 86 years and still enjoys ballroom dancing. He said:
"I am so grateful to St Dunstan's – they have a lot to me. I my own room here to Ovingdean and the staff is so friendly – it really feels like home. "
After reading about Stan Grimsey `s life. Don `t you feel proud that our country had such brave and courageous in It `s darkest days` s. I know I felt a little ashamed of my own little credit crunch worries and problems in life. Because they don `t seem so bad after all, compared to the struggles of Stan. I noticed this too. Yes, murderers, and survivors versus mode trophies. I bought it when he left. Im surprised they released the DLC trophies for the new, are lost in the desperate escape nightmares and trophies. Im excited because it will bring life back in RE5. Not sure why they added the trophies so early, because the content doesn't come out until February and March.
