The Revolution CD and graphics

Games were becoming too big, too unreliable and floppies. A 35-inch floppy could hold a megabyte and a half, and it was not uncommon to get five or six of them for a match. Any of them could be Duff, making picking a new game as a bet as an investment. And even if they have worked when you bought, you never know what might happen when you returned at the latest.

CDs have been a game-changer, literally. While giving developers more space than they could hope to meet – cough cough – they were considered expensive enough to be proof of pirates since the CD version of game would often remove the protection against copying that forced players to drive continue to search for keywords in textbooks and other controls of honesty tedious.

The main thrust, however, came the sudden obsession with games "with production values. Freed from the constraints space, and desperate to be Hollywood producers, audio orchestra, full spoken text, and those dreaded words ran Full Motion Video in industry, and things have not been the same since. Interactive Movies harnessed blue screens and economic actors to create some one of the most serious parts of slurry film in history.

Gameplay has become a dirty word, with action revolving almost entirely in multiple choice situations in which two of the three options meant instant death or bizarre 'Puzzles My First Funbook level', all packed in a desperate need to be an epic horror (The 7th Guest) or Star Wars (Wing Commanders and 4), or simply collect souls for Satan (Plumbers Do not Wear Ties). The number of really good interactive movies can be counted on the fingers of both hand gestures insulting. Gabriel Knight 2, Pandora Directive and Spycroft. That's all.

Fortunately, developers have learned their lessons quickly. Hollywood style is very good, and speech, dynamic, balls-out action sequences, instead of simple text screens and sprites blooping have been with us since. The main reason is simple. We've got something better than the JVM. We obtained 3D, which could not only show you cool stuff, but you can be an active participant.

Battle between 3dfx and PowerVR

In mid 1990, two graphs were locked in a bitter war: 3DFX and PowerVR. Both made 3D graphics accelerators, but only one could be the winner, as each match has been specially coded for one or the other system. The two companies had major supporters. PowerVR chip is behind the Dreamcast Sega, at the time, still a serious competitor, while 3DFX had thus increasing everyone. "Killer Applications" included the first 3dfx Tomb Raider and Quake, id's Next Big first-person shooter Finally, after Doom was breathless.

The 3D graphics have taken the pressure on the processor, allowing developers to do much more with the gaming world. For starters, their presence was not guaranteed, so they are put to work by adding an extra level of polish. Textures become clearer. The computers could handle higher resolutions, in turn help the graphics are sharper. Almost every game developed a chronic case of lens flare, most colorful enough overdose of lighting to give tackiest nightclub the world in the head. It was years before 3D cards became mandatory, even with technological jewels, like the original Unreal to players reluctantly card without taking part – in the ghetto but increasingly within the scope of software model where even the most powerful PC would choke with the number of calculations needed to produce 3D graphics and keep them moving at speeds arcade.

As for sound cards, almost all motherboards now comes with basic 3D support integrated. The difference is that, unlike the audio, you will not get decent performance out of it. Dedicated cards are still needed, and that technology has advanced motherboard, they took a much more central. The original 3DFX cards went into the PCI slot – in short, accessories. They moved to the dedicated AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) slot in the late 1990s, giving them more bandwidth to play with, and a dedicated route to the player. Current cards use the PCI slot Express, which offers better performance yet.

The 3D graphics cards original could not manage all 2D, based on a full map for these programs. Now they can do everything. The next obvious addition is the physics, which remains largely the same position that 3D graphics were back at the launch of Tomb Raider. Without a solid user base, game developers can not risk strengthening their latest headlines with a built-in application support full physical. Without being able to make it a central element of the game, they are limited to simple aesthetic effects.

But it is simply the next step in the history of the PC, and one that is far from finished. Looking back to the original 8086 PC, with its simple text and green blinking text entries, one would have predicted three decades would it require new kid on the block, courageous contender, the absolute master of the world of home office, and now the most important platform in the world.

While consoles win minor victories; get some examples of temporary success of the personal computer will always be there, not only as a powerful system of its own, but the cradle of every new game and the genre you care to mention. It is on that PC games are encoded. It is on that PC developers inevitably return once the luster has worn off the next big thing.

Sega Dreamcast Console Review-Part 1

Sega Dreamcast Controller ??????

It is the Sega Dreamcast is the only console controller has a small screen on it????

is the memory card that has a display on it. and I can say, yes, is the only game system that way. It was fun to have the memory card and play minigames in it, lol. but that killed the battery. stupid little watch battery that was difficult to change and costs too much. but it was a great idea.
