Updates with Nintendo DS but who will buy a DSi? – Nintendo DS Download Center
Nobody can accuse Nintendo of not wanting move on to another generation of consoles too quickly. It is easy to forget where Nintendo were in the last generation console wars. The GameCube has given them the impression that Nintendo will soon be following their old rival Sega on the hardware market. The Wii and DS has quickly turned around the back and put Nintendo in the number one place where it had not been since the Super Nintendo. It took Nintendo a long time to regain crown, and they do not want to take unnecessary risks.
The new hand held console has a range of features that Nintendo hope will encourage people to buy the DSi that the DS already popular. The main feature of the DSi is the two integrated digital cameras. Both have a VGA resolution (640 x 480) of the sensor. One of these cameras will be located on the outer casing while the other device be placed between two screens focusing on the user.
Cameras should be used for integrated functionality in future games, especially the internal camera will be able to capture the movements of players. The main objective of the VGA camera, however, will disseminate a video player playing through the world when the device is connected to one wireless hub. Photos taken on the cameras can also be sent to the Wii Photo Channel via the Wi-Fi
Nintendo played-up the fact that there are 11 different filters that can be used in real time take pictures. This seems rather to be a gimmick and something that will not be used by most on more than a handful of occasions.
To store these images, the DSi includes a SD card reader. We do not know what capacity memory card reader / writer is compatible with. One unknown is whether whether Nintendo intend to allow homebrew applications to be used by the SD card as is the case with the card readers as the R4DS This could open the door to all kinds of MP3 players, video players and desktop applications for use with a Nintendo DS. If Nintendo does not allow homebrew applications, this could be the most important selling point for the new console, but in an effort to prevent piracy, it seems unlikely.
The size of the new DS is a further reduction in size of the DS Lite. The new model is 12% thinner, but with the reduction in size and new features, something has to give, and it is backward compatibility. Unfortunately, the DSi will not be compatible with Game Boy Advance cartridge.
The screen has also undergone an upgrade and is now 17% greater. The President and the quality of volume are said to be better taken into game effects and music production an impression of high quality. The DSi Shop is a new feature designed to allow users to download software and carry with them. It would not have been possible on previous generations of Nintendo DS because of their lack of memory.
