Nintendo DS: Solutions and Comparisons
There are so many devices Slot 1 homebrew for the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite it is difficult to know exactly where you must buy. The current favorite, and I say this only on the basis of advice OUT OF STOCK on the pages of online stores, is the M3 DS. The M3 DS was not the first one box solution, but it is you become the favorite of the package. More than likely because of the immense popularity of the original adapter M3 movie player / for the Game Boy Advance.
In my research, however, I found the R4 DS. While this in itself is not very interesting What is interesting is that the M3 DS and DS R4 Slot 1 solution are produced by these people – or at least – the same factory. What this means for gamers and fans of homebrew is that they may get their hands on the DS R4 and know they are exactly the same product they would if they bought M3 DS Simply to another store.
You see, the R4 DS M3 DS Simply are exactly the same. The only difference between both units is the packaging and logo displayed on the main screen when you start your Nintendo DS or DS Lite. functionality, features, improvements and Firmware updates are also published at the same time, and it seems all the features and functions of each update are identical to each other. Whether you get the M3 DS Simply or R4 DS Slot 1 Solution, you will essentially get the same thing – everything you need to load games, homebrew and applications is included in the box.
R4 DS Slot 1 Solution Package
It's almost a dead giveaway here, except for the fact that the R4 DS comes in his own safe-R4 DS. But you will notice that once you open the box, the contents of the box are identical to the M3 DS Simply, you can even get the same light blue keychain / pouch supplied with the M3 DS simply. You get everything you need, right out of the box. This includes R4 DS Slot 1 cartridge, a USB microSD Reader / Writer (and it actually allows you to use your microSD as a USB drive) and the ring cover Transport and software CD.
The implementation is easy R4 DS
Installation is as simple as can be. The instruction manual included (which is on the CD itself) details exactly what you need to do to get your R4 DS to work. The first thing you have to do is to insert microSD card (not included – but you can buy this anywhere) in the micrSD reader / writer and plug it into any free USB port on your computer. It will instantly go up as a portable hard drive / flash drive. Here, you can do one of two things. You can copy the software from the CD, As stated in the manual of the microSD card to put all the system files on it. However, I recommend that you go to the R4 DS firmware, and download the latest drivers, because they are often updated there.
Once you've copied your system files to Micro SD card, it's time to load games and homebrew applications you want to play. Again, this works exactly the same way with the M3 DS simply, no difference between the two units at all. Simply copy and paste files from your PC that you want on the microSD card. A simple drag and drop is all that is needed. Games and homebrew applications work without clogging or attachment compression. they work as they are, right out of the box so to speak.
Now you copy your system files and files that you want to use and play, it's time to put your card into the microSD slot on top of the R4 DS cartridge. The R4 DS Cartidge is the same size as any standard Nintendo DS DS Lite or cartirge Thurs, so there is no swelling or outside when it is inserted in the cartridge slot of your NDS. The micro SD slot is located on the top of the DS R4 and it is actually spring. The insert microSD card into the slot with the label on the SD opposite side of the current label R4 DS Cartidge. You hear a click when you insert the card into the microSD slot is to let you know that it is in place, and you are ready to turn your Nintendo DS. The microSD card fits perfectly flat against the Case R4.
Once you have turned on your Nintendo DS or Nintendo DS Lite, the system files to load the R4 DS cartridge, exactly the same way they do when using the M3 DS Simply. It takes about two seconds for the main menu to appear, with the R4 DS logo on the top screen, and the menu on the bottom. On the bottom screen you can select one of three options.
1. Game Menu – When you select this option, you will be instantly taken to a list of all the game files, homebrew applications, etc.. you have stored on your microSD card. You can use the joystick NDS to select the file you want to load. If you load a game for the first time, you will be prompted after selecting the game to confirm you want to create a backup file for the game This is necessary if you want to win the match. Your game saves are stored on the same microSD card that the game files themselves – it's great if you want to delete these games later to be replaced by other files, as you can copy your Game files to your PC for later use when you are ready to continue to play this game again.
2. MULTIMEDIA MENU – When you select the second option, you launch the media player / Moonshell. In this menu, you will be able to view digital photos stored on the microSD card, listen to your favorite tunes in MP3, watch movies you've converted from DVD with the included software, and read ebooks in TXT format. This focuses your Nintendo DS or DS Lite into a full blown multimedia entertainment unit.
3. BOOT Slot 2 – This menu allows R4 DS, like the M3 DS to boot the GBA slot or Slot 2 on your Nintendo DS / DS Lite console. This is for those of us who also want to hand on a GBA flash card, and you want to run GBA homebrew games and applications as well as the Nintendo DS. It also adds extra storage for NDS Homebrew, because you can use a GBA Flash card for NDS startup files, as you use the R4 DS as a PassMe / PassCard solution.
Overall whatever one you get, both the R4 DS Slot 1 Solution and the M3 DS Simply are excellent accessories for the Nintendo DS / DS Lite. Which you should not depend that the model is not in stock. As mentioned earlier in this article, the two units are identical in all directions. The only difference being packing box and the logo that appears when you first boot your Nintendo DS.

Nintendo Game Boy Advanced, DS? What is the difference?
I want to buy one for my son and I wonder what is the difference between these consoles? Thanks
The GBA (Game Boy Advance) comes in three flavors, one – and perhaps a second – which you should be able to find easily. The original GBA has a design center screen, with controls on the side of the screen and the top of the GBA. The cartridge is top-loading, and power and volume controls are at the bottom of the unit. The GBA takes AA batteries. You can also play original Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance. The Game Boy Advance SP has a clamshell design, with the screen on the top, and all controls in the bottom of the box. The cartridge loads from the bottom of the unit, power and volume are on the side. Also You can play all the original games and NGB GBC. Although the SP loses the ability to use some of the GBA accessories (such as card reader), rechargeable batteries and the display Backlit seem to compensate the loss. This is probably the easiest to find, since it is considered the replacement for the original GBA. The third is called the Game Boy GBA Micro, and can only play GBA games. Its name comes from its size, slightly larger than the iPod mini. It also has a rechargeable battery. The DS is a system completely different, and comes in two flavors. Both DS and DS Lite play both DS and GBA games. The Lite offers a case a little smaller, brighter display and longer battery life. The smaller case Lite means that GBA games stick a little.
