Australians are royally spoiled when it comes to world-class offshore. Yet, we still travel, the sandy shores or run sunniest. Here are 10 best beaches in Asia.
1. SAUD BEACH, PHILIPPINES
On the northwest coast of Luzon, little-known Saud Beach at Pagudpud is a 2km arc of sand blinding pure bordered by the blue South China Sea. It's like a refined version of that famous Philippines shore, White Beach on the island Boracay. Beat the developers, the hair-braiding and sarong-floggers – Face to Pagudpud now.
2. Ko Adang, Thailand
Thailand far south coast of the Andaman Sea has groups of islands are still off-field for the tour group invaders and full moon ravers. 8. OCCHEUTEAL, CAMBODIA
Sihanoukville (aka Kompong Som) on the south coast of Cambodia is a beautiful home to five fine beaches, even if the best, Sokha, is reserved for clients of a private hotel. Voisin Sokha, the Occheuteal Beach comes close with its long beaches of white sand lined with pine trees. Popular with Cambodians and the passenger's north end Occheuteal became a haunt of hikers.
9. Mae Nam, Thailand
Strands east coast of Ko Samui are almost too well known. Head to the coast Snoozy north to Mae Nam, where the sands may be narrower, but you do not share with the crowd. The water is clear and calm, the palm trees shady. In the distance you can see a flotilla of blue-gray islands floating just north of Koh Samui, including Ko Phangan and Ang Thong Marine Park, where the beaches are truly empty.
10. Kenting, Taiwan
The semi-tropical landscape of southern Taiwan is a surprise until you remember that the island earlier Portuguese name, Formosa, means "beautiful". The name is forever. Unhurried and warm, Kenting, at the southern end of Wild Island has reasonable beaches for swimming, diving and surfing, plus a 18,000-ha national park. There is ample accommodation here, the seafood is excellent and, surprisingly, you're well inside the Tropic of Cancer.
